Chelsea Pensioner takes on bungee jump to raise funds for military charities

Chelsea Pensioner Alan Rutter is to take on the UK’s highest bungee jump to raise funds in support of his home the Royal Hospital Chelsea and The Queens Regimental Association. The 300 foot jump is due to take place at Windsor Bray on August 30.
Alan, 67, who served in The Queens Regiment, is known for both his adventurous and charitable streak. After almost 20 years serving in the Army, Alan went on to work with people with learning disabilities for the next 35 years.
The Chelsea Pensioner is also keen to raise funds in remembrance of fallen comrades. He said: “In the Northern Ireland conflict The Queens Regiment lost 11 members killed either on operations or as a result of terrorist action. I think it is important to commemorate the guys who lost their lives in service.
“I did freefall parachuting for a while but it was quite an expensive hobby! Since then I have done quite a few parachute jumps for different charities. I also completed the Santiago Pilgrimage last year, which is a 500 mile walk over the Pyrenees and is the oldest pilgrimage in history. I am excited and nervous about my bungee jump. I have never done one before. It’s a great opportunity to raise funds for two charities that are close to my heart.”

Major Alasdair Goulden, Secretary of the Queen’s Regiment Association, said: “Alan is one of the Regimental stars. The Regiment has always prided itself on being a true family regiment and Alan’s efforts epitomise the camaraderie and support that Queensmen give each other long after they have left the Regiment."
