Royal Hospital Chelsea digital collection launches on the My House of Memories app

11th March 2024

The Royal Hospital Chelsea is thrilled to announce the launch of our new digital collection on the My House of Memories app.

The My House of Memories app was created by House of Memories, National Museums Liverpool’s dementia awareness programme, by and for people living with dementia. The app encourages reminiscence and conversation about memories.

From today, users will be able to access our very own Royal Hospital Chelsea collection in the app. Inspired by stories and memories from the Chelsea Pensioners including objects, photos and more from past British Army life, as well as historic treasures found at the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

Community Engagement and Outreach Manager at the Royal Hospital, Marina Spiteri, who has been working on the collection said:

“There are some fascinating stories behind the objects which the Chelsea Pensioners chose to include. It’s been great to see the app in action as some of the Chelsea Pensioners living with dementia have explored it with our care team. Together, they were able to navigate the app easily and many of the objects inspired memories not only for the Pensioners but staff too!”

The Royal Hospital Chelsea collection is available from today and can be downloaded on the iTunes store or Google Play.

We are also working with House of Memories to deliver dementia awareness training for professional carers and staff, as well as family and friends affected by dementia within the Royal Hospital community.

With thanks to National Lottery players for supporting the Royal Hospital Chelsea’s digital collection on the My House of Memories app and upcoming dementia awareness workshops.
